Ikuna for developers

Every project gets its own environment. One shortcut between them.

Client work, the side project, the deep-work setup: each one is a saved context with its own editors, terminals, browser tabs, and window layout. Ikuna brings the whole thing back in under 3 seconds.

One Ikuna per project

"Client A" · "Side project" · "Deep work"
Click one. The environment rebuilds itself.

Free plan available. No card required. macOS 13+.

The expensive part of switching projects is not the switch

Moving between codebases is seconds. Rebuilding the state around them is what costs you: the editor windows you had arranged, the docs and dashboard tabs, the terminal layout, and then the long refocus while your brain reloads what it was doing. Research on interrupted work puts the average recovery cost at about 23 minutes per switch.

Ikuna removes the rebuild. The switch becomes one deliberate action instead of ten minutes of window archaeology.

01

Save the whole project setup

Name a context and Ikuna captures it: running apps, browser tabs, and the exact window frame of every app on every monitor. Editor- and terminal-agnostic, because it works at the macOS level.

02

Restore in under 3 seconds

One shortcut or one click and the project is back: right apps, right tabs, right layout. Dock the laptop and Device Link rebuilds the saved multi-monitor arrangement automatically.

03

Focus Shield guards the session

Per context, mark the apps that pull you out of it. In a deep-work context, Slack and Mail stay blocked. In a client context, the side project stays out of sight.

04

See what switching actually costs you

The Focus Intelligence dashboard is built from your own switching data: how often you change context, how long your real deep-work blocks are, and which project keeps fragmenting your day.

What Ikuna does not restore

Terminal environment variables, AWS profiles, and shell state. If per-project env vars are the core of your workflow, ShiftPlus restores those and is upfront about it; we compared the two tools honestly at Ikuna vs ShiftPlus. Ikuna restores everything around the shell: the apps, the tabs, the layout, and the focus to use them.

Let your AI see the context too

Ikuna ships a local MCP connection, so Claude Desktop, Codex, or another compatible client can answer from your real work data: what you worked on today, when your longest deep-work block was, which project keeps breaking your focus. It can also start a saved Ikuna from the conversation, within the permissions you grant. Details at ikuna.app/mcp.

Free for four projects. Pro for the focus layer.

FAQ

Does Ikuna restore terminal sessions or environment variables?

No. Ikuna restores the apps, browser tabs, and window layout around your shell, not the shell state inside it. If per-project env vars and AWS profiles are the core of your setup, ShiftPlus does that and says so on its own comparison page. Ikuna's answer to the same problem is the rest of the environment plus a focus layer: distraction blocking per project and analytics on how often you actually switch.

Does it work with my editor and terminal?

Ikuna captures running apps and their window frames per monitor, so it is editor- and terminal-agnostic. VS Code, Cursor, Zed, Xcode, iTerm, Ghostty, Warp: if it is a macOS app with windows, it can be part of a saved context.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The free plan covers up to 4 saved contexts (Ikunas) with full restore, multi-monitor support, and the basic dashboard. No card required. Pro (€9/month or €70/year) adds unlimited contexts, the Focus Intelligence dashboard, Focus Shield, Device Link, and Rituals.

Does Ikuna integrate with Raycast?

Not today. Ikuna is driven from its own app and a global shortcut. Raycast and Ikuna do different jobs (launcher vs. context manager), and they run side by side without conflict.

What does Ikuna do with my activity data?

The dashboard is computed locally on your Mac. What leaves the device is limited, non-identifying product telemetry: no workspace names, no app names, no bundle identifiers, no window titles. Pro users can disable all analytics and telemetry in Settings. Details are in the privacy policy at ikuna.app/privacy.
